With the complimentary tickets given,
I went to watch the musical "Jersey Boys" with my friends today.
(and that is like one of the benefits to study in a music college...
you get to get "A reserve" complimentray ticket,
which worth $165 each!!!
hahaha =DD )
so here's a little background:
JERSEY BOYS...
is a jukebox musical with,
music by Bob Gaudio,
lyrics by Bob Crewe and
book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (Rick Elice even interviewed Valli, Gaudio, and DeVito in writing the play, and pieced together Nick Massi's point of view based on those interviews,
as Massi died before the play was written).
It is a documentary-style musical,
based on one of the most successful 1960s rock 'n roll groups,
The Four Seasons.
The musical opened on Broadway in 2005, and has since had a North American National Tour, along with productions in London's West End, Las Vegas, Chicago, Toronto, Melbourne, Sydney, Philadelphia, Auckland, Brisbane and currently in Singapore.
The Broadway production of Jersey Boys won four 2006 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Actor (for John Lloyd Young as Frankie Valli), Best Featured Actor (for Christian Hoff as Tommy DeVito), and Best Lighting Design and Best Musical.

Well,
initially when i started watching,
i didn't really understand what is going on,
as we missed the beginning (rachael and i was late for 10min =.=),
abit too fast pace for me to catch up.
but i must comment this,
they are really very professional that,
they change from one scene to another in a very quick, swift and professional manner (duh, is broadway production leh...lol)...
plus,
no lack time,
so everything is very pack and tight,
from one scene to another.
*thumbs up*
after watching for a few scenes,
i started to settle into the show,
and understand and enjoy thereafter.
and i espesically love some of the songs feactured in the musical,
such as a score of Seasons' hits like "Can't Take My Eyes Off You,"
"Sherry,"
"Walk Like a Man,"
"My Eyes Adored You,"
"Working My Way Back to You,"
"Dawn (Go Away)" and "Big Girls Don't Cry."
so basically,
"Jersey Boys" tells the real-life story of how four blue-collar kids from Jersey,
became one of the greatest successes in pop music history.
Four Seasons,
made up of Frankie Valli,
Bob Gaudio,
Tommy DeVito and
Nick Massi,
wrote their own songs,
invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records globally,
all before they turned 30.
the story dramatizes the forming,
rise and eventual break-up of the original four members of The Four Seasons.
The musical is separated into four "seasons",
each narrated by a different member of the band.
Act 1 comprises Spring (Tommy DeVito) & Summer (Bob Gaudio);
Act 2 comprises Fall (Nick Massi) & Winter (Frankie Valli);
each member reflecting theirs perspective on the band (history) and his contribution.
The actual Four Seasons band
I think the person who touched(not literally) me most is the "reflection" of Valli.
He tells that he gained fame and success in his music career (which is something he loves doing),
at the cost of his marriage and family,
making him loss his duties and responsibilities as a husband,
and as a dad.
I guess the most saddening thing would be his eventual divorce with Mary and,
the death of his daughter, Francine, due to overdose of drug.
I cannot really imagine if i grow up without my dad,
as in,
i have a dad yet i don't even get to see him like most of the times, just like Francine?
though my dad is naggy at times,
strict in regards to our studies,
stubborn on some occassions,
but,
he's always there when we are "in trouble" (not that we have ever been in big trouble before, like beating people up or sth)
and most importantly,
he LOVES US so much,
EVEN MORE THAN he loves himself,
and just this point,
it wins hand down to any other good points or bad points i could think of!
Really!
so you tell me,
how can i imagine living without my dad!!!
though we are not wealthy (in term of monetary),
but our family is just as comfortable and blissful (in my opinion).
I am really thankful to have a dad,
who can give us a such a comfortable life yet spending just as much time with us when we are growing up.
So,
well I guess,
if we are not ready to be a responsible and dutiful husband/wife,
father/mother,
not only in term of bringing enough or more pennies back to the family,
but also able to spend enough quality time with our spouse/family,
then,
don't ever start a family.
ok,
that's not the moral of the musical,
and i side tracked super lots
=XX
The "Four Seasons" cast in the Jersey Boys
well,
all in all,
i enjoyed the musical,
in a way,
admire the "Four Seasons" spirit,
the never-give-up spirit,
even after so much obstacles...
it's this spirit that led them to their eventual success!!!
Perhaps,
that's the spirit of people from Jersey?
haha
deep in my heart,
i really admire and salute this kinda people-
able to give up everything and give in everything for chasing their dream,
making it into a reality!!!
sometimes,
i just hope i also have the courage to give up everything,
and chase after my dream,
realising it!!!
=))
but at the end of the day,
do remember,
your family is important,
so is communication between people,
esp friends.
=))
